Back in Black

Photo taken by Mitch Elder, a combat veteran retired from the USAF who has experienced depression, anxiety and PTSD. He lives in Oregon with his wife of 30+ years, and their two four-legged kids.

About this photo: This photograph of a tattooed back was taken with a Nikon N65 film camera with 35-70 zoom, and Ilford Delta 100 black and white film.

    Thank you all very much. This really happened almost by accident. My wife had just gotten out of the shower one morning and I noticed how the light and shadow through the window blinds was playing across her back. So I said, “Don’t move! Stay right where you are. I’ve got to get my camera.” So here I am, curled up on top of the toilet in about four cubic feet of space to get all the elements together properly. I printed it on Ilford paper and then matted and framed it. It’s now hanging on the wall next to the computer where I now sit. This is traditional black and white darkroom work.
