Identity

Photo taken by Hayley, a photography and new media student who was afflicted with anorexia and anxiety as a teenager. Her passions include adventure, traveling, music, art, and the outdoors.

About this photo: “This photograph describes how hard it is to be an adolescent, to be judged all the time by not only yourself, but the expectations of friends and classmates. It shows an adolescent standing innocent, but hidden to escape from this judgement. When I was a teenager I suffered from anorexia and anxiety. I found myself sick in bed a lot of the time and felt psychologically that I couldn’t show my face and mind to anybody and that I needed to hide this mental illness from the outside world.”

I can’t say I like this image…it’s too disturbing for that…but it is powerful and thought provoking!
