Photo taken by Abby, a 32-year-old woman from the Bay Area of California who was diagnosed several years ago with Bipolar II, and has fought through addiction. She is happiest when she is traveling, and her favorite self-care activity is taking her camera for a walk and focusing only on what the frame shows her.
About this photo: “To me, this image conveys endurance and acceptance of my own contradictions. I am a Janus-faced creature, sometimes bright green and wispy, sometimes darkly grounded in my skeletal roots. I continue to grow and sprout even as destructive impulses lurk in the shadows. Being mindful of my mortality brings my attention to what is alive, allowing for simple pleasures, even weeds, to convey hope and serenity.”
