Photo taken by Thirdeyemom, who experienced severe postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. It was a terrifying, isolating experience for her, which included terrible insomnia and hallucinations. Thankfully with the help of doctors and family, one week after her son’s first birthday she was able to board a plane to South Africa, resuming her love of travel. Through traveling, writing, and photography she began to see the beauty of the world again.
About this photo: “Antigua is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. A UNESCO Heritage Site, this colorful Guatemalan town has seen endless amounts of death and destruction. Several earthquakes have destroyed the beautiful colonial buildings and churches over time, yet they were continually rebuilt. The magnificent ruins of the destroyed cathedrals were left for the world to see and enjoy while the new constructions were built alongside them. This picture was taken of ruins I saw while visiting Antigua. I love how the ruins open up to the bright blue sky and the patchy, powderpuff clouds bring an overall sense of exhilaration and beauty. Antigua was truly a magical place that brought me peace and joy.”
