Crumbling Face of Depression

Photo taken by a contributor Danielle in Asbury Park, NJ. She has experienced long-term depressive episodes, as well as severe anxiety, and possibly Borderline Personality Disorder. She has tried countless treatments, therapists, and therapies, including hospitalization, but none have quite done the trick. Although she does not feel “better,” she feels that she may be on the right track, and is trying to keep hope and keep photographing through her challenges.

About this photo: “I love this building. The bright color and smiling face look so happy, but the reality is that it’s in a state of disrepair, cracked and deteriorating. It really resonates with me. I want to appear bright and happy, but sometimes it’s so hard when I feel like I’m alone, crumbling inside… Yet somehow, through it all, I try to force a smile.

Hi, Thanks for sharing & hang in there! I’m struggling, too, very much right now. I suffer from Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and have also been diagnosed with PTSD in the past. I find the holiday season to be very tough, because the msg. we get is that we “should be” happy at this time of yr. I find strength through postings such as yours . . I really appreciate it . . .

fun photo! I relate to the episodes of depression and anxiety and why that building would resonate with you.

I really appreciate this photo. It reminds me of exactly how I’m feeling right now. I’ve been feeling this way for a while now and having a hard time pulling myself out of the despair I’ve been feeling. It does help to know there’s other people out there
